Soft Close Toilet Seat – No More “Bang” Coming From The Bathroom
| February 19, 2010 | Posted by Charles under Uncategorized |
A soft close toilet seat is one of the latest items to hit the bathroom fixture market. The real benefit of this toilet seat is that the toilet seat and lid will not slam down onto the toilet bowl. Instead the toilet seat and lid will slowly close and close down on top of the toilet bowl making just about zero noise.
The hinges are most toilet seats are called whisper close hinges which mean they will not allow the sear to slam down for example when it slips out of someone’s hand. These toilet seats are slightly more expensive that most other toilet seats but for the sake of your ears it is well worth it.
Most of these toilet seats have easy clean hinges, most traditional toilet seats bolt down to the toilet bowl and to remove them you have to un-screw the bolts. These easy clean hinges are different the bolts attach to the toilet bowl and the toilet seat hinges slide over the bolt and twist lock on. To remove it all you have to do is un-twist the locking mechanism which will easily release the toilet seat so you can clean all around the toilet and seat.

Toto does not list individual replacement parts on their website and Customer Service has not provided me with an answer.
Are there replacement parts available – perhaps aftermarket?
When you receive an answer or a place that can supply you with the hinge, please let me know as i am experiencing the same problem…
I contacted Toto about the same issue and they say there is no way of repairing the hinge once it blows out. This design engineer thinks this is a very poor design, clearly driven by the sales department. I’ve read that it can be taken apart and new grease put in but it seems to me that the seal is blown just putting new grease in won’t help anything.
