When you replace the toilet seat hinge you will also need to replace the toilet binge bolt. This is the bolt that the hinge attaches to and connects the hinge to the toilet bowl.

Order a replacement hinge from your toilet seat manufacturer(for example Kohler) and simply remove the toilet seat from your Toto toilet and detach the broken hinge and attach the new one. Finally, reattach the seat to your toilet and you are good to go.

Toilet Seat Hinges – What Materials Are They Made From

Toilet seat hinges are made from various materials, some look better than others, while others are much more durable.

1) Brass – brass toilet seat hinges are one of the most popular, they hold up fairly well but tend to discolor over time.

2) Plastic – plastic toilet seat hinges are the next most popular but they unfortunately are the least durable and tend to break pretty easy.  The advantages are they are quick to replace and easy to clean.

3) Chrome – chrome toilet seat hinges were popular in years past but recently they have not been as popular due to the chrome plating falling coming off after repeated cleanings.
